David Burghardt Vision Care, Lincoln

A single-storey rear extension to an Optometrists office (approx 70 sq m) to the rear of an existing Grade II listed building in Lincoln. The extension provides four new consulting rooms (including two larger rooms designed for clients with mobility issues), an accessible WC, a new access and a sympathetic connection to the existing building. The project has a modern aesthetic whilst utilising natural good quality materials to complement the quality of the listed building and surrounding area.

The proposals: set the new build element away from the existing building by utilising a glazed connection; minimise interference with the existing building; make use of a flat roof construction to reduce the massing/scale and ensure extension is subordinate to existing building; use traditional
and sustainable materials; use a green roof system; include a provision of dedicated/concealed areas for bin storage and heat exchangers.
