Scartho Top, Grimsby

Project type

Commercial

Location

Grimsby

The Local Centre comprises two buildings forming a courtyard with parking area to the frontage.

These four commercial units with associated parking and servicing areas, are single storey with the eaves height responding to the scale of the nearby residential properties.

Designed to be approached on foot, by bicycle and by car, the buildings have been located towards the western and southern boundaries of the site with the main glazed elevations orientated to face Matthew Telford Park, creating an active street frontage.

Soft landscaping areas visually soften the impact of the built forms into the local environment, providing an attractive
street-scene when approached from Matthew Telford Park.

The buildings contribute to the area by responding to nearby residential properties, utilising a similar palette of traditional materials. The form of the buildings makes reference to traditional agricultural buildings. These traditional forms and materials are treated in a more contemporary manner through crisp detailing of junctions to clearly identify the buildings as a modern addition but with reference to traditional forms.
